Old PC AND Old PGP Desktop: Transfer?

$

I need a solution

I have a user whose PC needs to be replaced: both using XP.  The old system has PGP Freeware V6.5, which I know is no longer available.  We are ready to upgrade to the appropriate Symantec security product, but would like to keep the current keys, if possible.

a) What is the equivalent current Symantec product?

b) Can the current keys be transferred, and if so, how is that done?

c) I want to create a 'back up' system in case (or when....) the primary system fails: am I correct that the backup needs its own copy of the appropriate software?

Thanks,

David

I need a solution

We are setting up a new company, BNET w/ new AD, PGP Universal, and Exchange, but for a few months they will continue to use ANET View clients.  I've used PGP Desktop from both ANET and BNET and cross loaded privates keys but I cannot get them to both work on the same system with two different Oultook profiles to the respective mail systems.  If I'm using the BNET PGP Desktop the when I am prompted to decrypt an ANET e-mail with the ANET Private key loaded and implicitly trusted, it will not accept the passphrase for ANET's private key.

Ideas?

Thanks!

Symantec Encryption Desktop continously asking for passphrase

I need a solution

Hi everyone

We have a windows 7 64Bits winth Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.0.

In previous versions, 10.2, when you don't need open encrypted files or folder encrypted in with the netshare option, PGP only ask for you once to put the passphrase. In the new version if you don't write the passphrase PGP ask for that passphrase for every object that is encrypted, so is a headache not write the passphrase.

Can someone help us to avoid that situation?

Thanks in advance

Difference between PGP9.8 V4.0 to PGP 8.1 V1.0

Hi Guys,

We have an application that does not load/execute if PGP9.8 V4.0 is running, however the same application runs when PGP9.8 V4.0 is uninstalled
and PGP8.1 V1.0 is installed. ***This PGP desktop by the way...

Seeing that we haven't been able to get a fix from the vendor for other application, We were looking at uninstalling PGP9.8 and replacing it with PGP8.1. However prior to completing this we need to identify what is the difference between both versions and also Advantages/Dis-advantages.

I have tired to find comparison specs for both software version online without any success and you guys are my only option.

Please advise...

Vin

How to get dialog box for manual authroization of pgp 8

I have PGP 8.  I had to replace my motherboard so I re-installed PGP.  But instead of a "Manual" button the software wants to authenticate on line.
As I understand it that server no longer exists.  How do I get the "Manual" choice back.  I still have my manual license authorization.

PGP Desktop Email w Outlook 2007/2010- Decrypted emails stored in clear in psts ?

I need a solution

Hi Guys,

I would like to check if emails decrypted by PGP are stored encrypted or decrypted in Outlook psts?

  • My environment is as follows:
  • Symantec Encryption Management Server v3.3
  • Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3
  • Outlook 2007/2010 32-Bit
  • Windows 7 SP1 32-Bit

Passphrase is set to be not cached.

Current scenerio faced:

In Outlook 2007/2010, incoming email is encrypted - user is prompted to key in passphrase to decrypt email.

Email gets decrypted and user reads emails as per normal. If user quits Outlook, the next time Outlook runs, user will not be prompted for the passphrase again when he/she clicks on the same email irregardless if PGP is running. In this way, are the emails stored decrypted ?

Ideal scenerio I would like to achieve:

In Outlook 2007/2010, incoming email is encrypted - user is prompted to key in passphrase to decrypt email.

Email gets decrypted and user reads emails as per normal. If user quits Outlook, the next time Outlook runs, user will be prompted for the passphrase again when he/she clicks on the same email though it was already decrypted by PGP.

If PGP is not running, then the email message should read as message.pgp and version.txt, or at least the contents should not be readable.

If there's any particular consumer policy to be enabled to achieve the above scenerio, please let me know.

Thank you.

I need a solution

We have recently upgraded to PGP desktop 10 from PGP 8 and are setting up our keyrings, I have been given the task of setting the new system up

the default key on the keyring is set to our individual key(from our username)  , but we need to set the default key to be a shared key from the server

How do we set default keys on the keyring?  Is there any way to do this ?

thanks in advance

My hardisk encrypt with PGP desktop and work well. but I got a new SSD Harddisk and set it as main disk and install the new XP OS.

I installed the PGP in my new SSD harddisk and it can recognize my old harddisk as a mobile disk after I input the PGP password.

I always need input the password to unlock the old disk. so I decrypted the old disk in my new windows XP but now the disk cannot be recognize.

and it always say "The Disk in drive G is not formatted, do you want to format it now?",  I should decrypt the old disk in the old system.

but I decrypt the old disk in new system.  is there any solution to resolve my problem. really appreciate if you can give me any idea.

Now the disk cannot be Encrypt.

I requested help from disk recovery team, they said it's not disk problem, it seem PGP decrypt problem since it cannot read the disk with any scan tools

Duplicate Emails in Outlook Sent Items with PGP enable.

I need a solution

I have a user who, with PGP Desktop services enable, has duplicate sent emails in his SENT ITEMS fodler in Outlook. It does not matter if the emails are encrypted or not, every sent email is duplicated. The recipients are not actually recieving duplicate emails. When PGP services are off, this issue does not occur.

They are using Outlook 2010 with Exchange and PGP version 10.1.0.

There are multiple users having the same setup that do not have this problem.

Can someone show me how to disable this?

PGP Desktop Corporate - public key vs. private key

I need a solution

I created a keypair (public key and private key) on Symantec's PGP Desktop Corporate.  At least, I think I did. But now I need to send my public key to someone. Symantec's user guide says to make sure I only send the public key and not the private key.  But the userguide does not provide any clue as to which key is which.

When I click "All Keys" it shows only one key, which I can expand to show a total of three rows, each successive row indented more than the previous row, and each with a different icon next to it (key, envelope, and something that looks like a slanted pen resting on a small ball)  The key properties include an "ID" as well as an ID for a "Subkey."  These two IDs are not the same, but they are both 10 characters long.

When I use the program to create a text file of this key, I get an extemely long number (hundreds of characters long) separated occasionally by forward slashes.

Which is my public key and which is my private key?  How do I "separate" my public key from my keypair before I send it to other people?

Thanks!

PGP Desktop - email accounts with and without Universal server

I need a solution

Good afternoon,

I came across an interesting issue while seting up PGP infrastructure in my company. We use PGP Desktop with PGP Universal Server as default configuration. However, some users require ability to encrypt e-mails sent from accounts that are out of scope of Universal Server. For them I have created separate service in users' PGP Desktop and set "none" for Universal Server in order to use different private key. In this configuration everything works just fine. However, when user logs out from his workstation and logs again the Universal Server value is set to our Universal Server and instead of chosen private key, user's default private key is set.

As this causes a lot of trouble for my non-technical colleagues, is there any way to set the service in PGP Desktop fixed so it is not modified every time user logs in to the system?

I have already tried forcing the policy to use Standlone mode as well as disabling automatic download of new policies from Universal Server, but this did not help.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you!

PGP volumes (not WDE) on AF hard drives?

I need a solution

I recently connected an exteral USB 3.0 drive and have had problems creating PGP volumes on it.  The first time, the volume was created but not mounted.  Manual attempts to mount it failed.  Then looking at the PGP Desktop screen I notice the reporte size was off the charts.  The physical size asked for and created was 1024G.  Next I tried again dropping the size down to 1000G.  This time I got the message below.

pgp-create.png

I created a 100mb volume successfully as a test.  Not sure if it's a timing issue with the USB 3 card (given the randomness of the failures) or if AF drives just should not be used to hold PGP 'volumes'.

I confirmed it as an AF drive using fsutil.

Bytes Per Sector  :               512
Bytes Per Physical Sector :  4096

My laptop has a drive with the same characteristics and a 20mb volume that has never caused any problem.

General questions regarding Symantec Encryption Desktop Professional

I need a solution

Hello community,

I've got a few questions regarding the product "Symantec Encryption Desktop Professional" that I haven't been able to conclusively sort out via the information provided on the product websites and in the downloadable resources. Hopefully, someone can help me out:

  • 1. If I encrypt an external HDD with the tool, can that HDD then only be read again on that specific computer or is there some sort of portable viewer program that can be used to access the data on any other computer?
  • 2. Related to question #1: If there isn't such a tool and as a result a second installation on the second computer is needed, does that mean that two separate licenses have to be acquired or is it allowed to use one license for both installation if it is ensured that only one is active at any given time?
  • 3. I am at a loss finding the distinct differences between the "Professional" and "Corporate" version of the product. Can anyone point me to some sort of comparison list/chart or can quickly outline the main points?
  • 4. Can the product handle SingleSignOn, meaning that I only have to enter one password on computer startup in the PGP boot screen that will then automatically be passed to the OS (Windows 7) as the logon password for the windows account? I think I read somewhere that it (at least was) possible, but just wanted to verify, especially since I wasn't able to get it working with the trial version so far.
  • 5. Does the product work with finger print sensors that some new laptops have (e.g. Lenovo W520)?

Thanks for your support in advance!

If endpoint/desktop in encrypted with PGP desktop encryption then DLP can easily scan for confidential data which may be in encrypted form and can SEP scan the data for threat / virus identification. How much impacts will be on 3 of symantec application if they all are used.

I need a solution

Hi Guys

Just a quick one for you all, I have a user using Symantec PGP Email encryption V 10.2.1 with Outlook 2010. It is setup and working with keys and policies etc. But all of his outgoing emails are being encrypted. Is there a way so none of his outgoing emails are encrypted? I have multiple users using this software and working as intended but unfortunately it was setup before my time, and I have compared all settings with users that are working correctly and cannot see anything different? Any help will be appreciated

Thanks

Adding keyservers in PGP desktop

$

I need a solution

Hello,

I would like to add keyservers to PGP desktop. For instance the server: pgp.mit.edu: What kind of "type", "address", "port" and "base dn" do I have to enter for this server? The thing is I can browse directly to the website of the keyserver and I am able to retrieve uploaded key data. But for some reason I cannot retrieve keys from this server using the search function of PGP Desktop. I tried this with several servers and several configurations.

Some hints are highly appreciated.

Cheers
